Abbotsford-Mission byelection campaigns kick off after Conservative MLA steps down
The chambers will host online and in-person forums as five candidates campaign for the open seat, with health care and affordability among the main issues.
- Two debates are scheduled for the Abbotsford-Mission byelection, with the Abbotsford Chamber hosting a live-streamed forum on Sept. 9 and the Mission Regional Chamber holding an in-person event at Clarke Theatre on Sept. 14.
- Premier David Eby called the byelection on Aug. 29, one week after former Abbotsford-Mission MLA Reann Gasper resigned. Five candidates are running, including Conservative Party leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay and NDP candidate Pam Alexis.
- University of the Fraser Valley professor Hamish Telford will moderate the non-partisan Abbotsford Chamber debate on Sept. 9 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. with no in-person audience.
- On Sept. 14, the Mission Regional Chamber will host the second forum at Clarke Theatre from 6 to 8 p.m., free to attend in person and streamed on YouTube.
- Elections BC confirmed the final candidate list on Saturday, Sept. 5, including Green Party candidate Stephen Fowler and Libertarian candidate Jeff Monds. Advance voting runs Sept. 18 to 23; election day is Sept. 26.
