BC Conservative Party leader Lorne Doerkson hits campaign trail in Cariboo-Chilcotin
Doerkson pitched tax restraint, LNG expansion and faster permitting while campaigning in riding communities ahead of the Oct. 24 election.
On Sunday, October 4, British Columbia Conservative interim leader Lorne Doerkson campaigned in Savona, Cache Creek, and Clinton, emphasizing his priority is retaining his seat as MLA for Cariboo-Chilcotin.
Doerkson admitted becoming interim leader was a surprise; he discussed strategy with OneBC interim leader Dallas Brodie to avoid splitting the right-wing vote before the election.
Addressing regional challenges, Doerkson highlighted the Pear Lake wildfire's human toll, noting 120 buildings were lost, and criticized expensive insurance rates leaving residents uninsured.
Pledging not to raise taxes, Doerkson cited the province's more than $183 billion debt and expressed frustration with natural resource permitting delays that took a resident two years.
With the election 20 days away, Doerkson urged voters to change the government's path, maintaining that if elected premier, he would continue building up British Columbia.
