BBC Match of the Day Announcement Misses Out Ex Arsenal Player Martin Keown
The broadcaster added four new analysts and said six regular pundits were not named, while contract talks continue and reports of a mass exit were denied.
The BBC revealed its pundit lineup for the new Premier League season starting Friday, August 21, adding former Tottenham Hotspur player Robbie Keane, former Brentford manager Thomas Frank, recently-retired Ashley Young, and ex-Belgium centre half Toby Alderweireld to the MOTD team.
Reports from The Sun alleged a mass exodus of MOTD pundits to former BBC stalwart Gary Lineker's Netflix show, The Rest, citing competing streaming opportunities as pundits weighed staying on.
Six regular pundits, including former Arsenal defender Martin Keown and longstanding MOTD contributor Dion Dublin, were missing from the announcement, though reports suggest they may still feature in future coverage pending contract finalization.
Alongside the highlights show, the corporation unveiled four new shows on BBC Football YouTube and a fan collective representing all 20 Premier League clubs, aiming to provide a "richer football experience."
BBC Sport director Alex Kay-Jelski said the broadcaster is putting fans "at the heart of the game," even as Saturday lunchtime show Football Focus was axed after 52 years on the air.
