Barry Keoghan Says He Wants to “Shy Away” from Acting Amid Online “Abuse”
Barry Keoghan, 33, considers quitting acting due to online abuse about his appearance affecting his mental health and family, including concerns for his 3-year-old son, he told SiriusXM.
- On Friday, actor Barry Keoghan revealed he is considering stepping back from acting due to intense online harassment, telling SiriusXM's The Morning Mash Up, "It's a lot of abuse of how I look."
- Keoghan explained that persistent negativity has begun affecting his professional life; "when that starts leaking into your art, it becomes a problem because then you don't even want to be on screen anymore," he stated.
- The 33-year-old actor expressed deep concern for his 3-year-old son, Brando, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Alyson Sandro, stating, "It is disappointing for the fans, but it's also disappointing that my little boy has to read all of this stuff when he gets older."
- Previously in December 2024, Keoghan urged followers on X to be respectful following criticism about his split from singer Sabrina Carpenter, writing, "My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don't respond too."
- Beyond online comments, Keoghan highlighted boundary-crossing incidents, such as people sitting outside his home, emphasizing, "The messages I have received, no person should ever have to read them.
