‘That Was a Big Oopsie’: Barrie Colts Coach Takes Blame for Bizarre Postgame Conference
The Colts repeated the phrase six times in a 75-second postgame exchange after a 5-0 Game 7 win.
On Wednesday, the Ontario Hockey League fined the Barrie Colts $15,000 for conduct detrimental to the league's public perception following Monday's terse post-game press conference in Brantford.
Head coach Dylan Smoskowitz and captain Kashawn Aitcheson staged the incident after the Ontario Hockey League rejected Smoskowitz's request to bring the entire team into the press conference.
During the roughly 75-second exchange, both repeatedly replied 'no one cares, work harder' before Smoskowitz apologized Tuesday on TSN's OverDrive program, calling his actions a 'big oopsie.'
The OHL declared the comments 'highly unprofessional and represented a disservice to the dedicated media members' who provide coverage of the league.
Game 1 of the OHL Championship begins tonight at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium, where the Colts face the Kitchener Rangers despite the controversy.
