Badruddin Ajmal to contest Nagaon Lok Sabha bypoll on October 6, eyes Lok Sabha return after 2024 defeat
The Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election on October 6 features All India United Democratic Front chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, BJP candidate Devasish Sharma, and Congress nominee Sibamoni Bora, following the resignation of MP Pradyut Bordoloi.
Originally, the Nagaon seat was expected to see a direct contest between the ruling BJP and the Congress party following the resignation of sitting MP Pradyut Bordoloi.
Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi alleged the BJP, panicked by the Congress's strong candidate, sought help from its "trusted political ally," the AIUDF, to divide opposition votes.
Seeking re-entry to the Lok Sabha, Maulana Badruddin Ajmal claims his candidacy will attract both Muslim and Hindu voters, asserting significant work during floods in Sibsagar.
While the All India Trinamool Congress has fielded Abdul Salam, Ajmal's entry transforms the race into a triangular contest with counting scheduled for October 9.
