Stampeders Lose Backup QB as P.J. Walker Decides to ‘Step Away’ After 9-Year Pro Career
Walker leaves after 9 pro seasons following a 2025 campaign in which he threw 2 touchdowns and 4 interceptions for Calgary.
On Thursday, quarterback P.J. Walker informed the Calgary Stampeders he is retiring from professional football after nine seasons. The club announced the decision on social media.
Walker joined the Stampeders in October 2024, serving as a backup behind Vernon Adams Jr. His career included stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, Chicago Bears, Cleveland Browns, Seattle Seahawks, and the Houston Roughnecks.
Veteran offensive lineman Peter Godber also announced his retirement Thursday after an eight-year career. The 31-year-old Toronto native appeared in 82 regular-season games with Ottawa, Saskatchewan, and Toronto.
Alongside Walker's departure, the Stampeders confirmed the retirement of American defensive backs Brady Breeze and Lance Robinson, plus the release of linebacker Nicky Farinaccio.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers added Canadian defensive lineman Carter Hooper and draft picks Brody Clark and Joshua Jack, while transferring J.J. Taylor and Ben Dooley to the retired list.
