It was supposed to be a fun sleepover for Belgian toddler Dean Verberckmoes (4) at his 'cuddle babysitter's'. It turned into a disappearance with a tragic ending. The toddler was found dead under a blanket on Neeltje Jans in Zeeland. The jury in the case will be selected on Monday, and on Thursday Dave De K. (39) will stand trial for manslaughter and kidnapping. His Dutch ex Romy W. (29) will also have to answer for her actions.
The jury for the trial concerning the kidnapping and death of 4-year-old Dean Verberckmoes is being selected today. The trial against Dave De Cock and his ex-girlfriend Romy W. starts on Thursday. The case rocked the entire country in early 2022.
Dean (4) was allowed to stay another night. Afterwards, his 'cuddly uncle' was going to bring him back. But there was an unclear story about a flat tire and a dead phone battery. And eventually a search. That ended with a dead little boy, under a blanket on Neeltje Jans.
After being missing for days, the body of 4-year-old Dean was found in Zeeland on January 17, 2022. The toddler from Beveren had been taken by Dave De K., a friend of his mother. He was babysitting little Dean with his then-girlfriend Romy W. Dave will be tried later, but tomorrow the trial against Romy W. begins in Ghent; she is suspected of involvement in the abduction and death of the toddler.
