Mother 'Threw Newborn Baby From Third-Floor Window'
Zahira Byjaouane faces murder charges after allegedly throwing her 18-day-old daughter from a third-floor window; the infant died from a skull fracture, prosecutors said.
- On Saturday, an 18-day-old baby girl named Mariam fell from a third-floor flat in Westminster and died in hospital at 9am from a fractured skull.
- Her husband called 999 at 7.30am on Saturday, and emergency services found Mariam lying on a concrete surface between the block of flats on Great Peter Street and a high metal railing.
- Police found Zahira Byjaouane sitting on a bed, and she was charged with murder the following day, prosecutors allege she threw the baby from the window.
- Zahira Byjaouane, 43, was due to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday but did not attend, and the judge remanded her into custody while flowers and a toy were left near the Peabody Estate, Horseferry Road.
- Judge Mark Lucraft KC set a timetable with a plea hearing on June 3 and a provisional 10-day trial from February 15 2027.
