Baby on board | New mom delivers baby in her car along the highway with an officer assist
Constable Jenna Ziviani helped deliver the baby in the car as paramedics arrived shortly after, and police said mother and daughter are recovering at home.
Officers helped deliver a baby girl in the driveway of the Browns Plains Police Station in Queensland just after midnight on Tuesday. The birth occurred seven minutes after police arrived.
The mother and her partner were driving to Logan Hospital when she entered late stages of labour with contractions two minutes apart. Realizing they would not arrive in time, they pulled into the police station driveway.
Constable Jenna Ziviani helped deliver the baby under guidance from a Queensland Ambulance Service Emergency Medical Dispatcher on the phone. The dispatcher guided Ziviani through the process from crowning to supporting the baby's shoulders.
Paramedics arrived shortly after and transported the family to Logan for further care. Police say both the mother and newborn are now happy and healthy, recovering at home.
Senior Sergeant Aleisha Young, arriving shortly after the birth, called it a "celebration" in her 27-year career. She noted it was the first time in her service she had assisted with a birth on shift.
