Avalanche Agree to Terms with Coach Jared Bednar on a 4-Year Extension Through 2030-31
Bednar is now signed through 2030-31 after guiding Colorado to eight playoff trips in nine seasons and a Stanley Cup title.
- On Wednesday, the Colorado Avalanche signed head coach Jared Bednar to a four-year contract extension through the 2030-31 season, replacing the final year of his previous deal.
- Questions about Bednar's future emerged after the Presidents Trophy-winning Avalanche were swept by the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Finals, though General Manager Joe Sakic offered early offseason support.
- Bednar holds a 445-262-75 record across 782 regular season games, the most wins in franchise history, and led the team to a Stanley Cup title in 2022 alongside stars Cale Makar, Nathan MacKinnon and captain Gabriel Landeskog.
- The extension removes doubt about Bednar's future with the organization, marking the second major deal the Avalanche completed this offseason after locking up defenseman Cale Makar to the richest contract in league history.
- Bednar ranks second in NHL coaching longevity behind only Jon Cooper of the Tampa Bay Lightning, with the Avalanche reaching the playoffs in eight of his nine seasons including a 2022 Stanley Cup championship.
