Author Steven Galloway testifies that split was 'amicable' with former student
He says the allegations were repeated online and in other forums, leading to his suspension and firing from the university, court heard.
On Tuesday, author Steven Galloway testified in his defamation lawsuit, claiming his split from a former student was "amicable" and denying rape allegations that led to his firing from UBC.
Galloway testified he had a two-year consensual relationship with the woman, admitting the affair was "inappropriate, ill-advised and stupid," but maintained they kept regular contact after splitting in 2013.
While in Ohio in November 2015, Galloway learned of the sexual assault allegation; Annabel Lyon, acting department chair, called police, leading him to be committed to a psychiatric hospital for 72 hours.
Katie Wagner testified on Tuesday that Galloway was "gutted" after being accused of rape, noting that "every single time we tried to put out a different sort of thing, somebody came back" with accusations.
Justice Neena Sharma granted continued anonymity to the defendant on Monday, as the trial concerning four remaining defendants proceeds following the woman's withdrawal of her justification defense.
