Caledon Votes 2026: Meet Your Council Candidates: Carmela Palkowski, Ward 6
Kicic says Town projects have routinely run over budget and wants stricter procurement oversight to stop taxpayers from covering surprise deficits.
Ward 6 candidate Zivka Kicic is calling for stricter municipal budget oversight, citing a need for financial transparency in Town Hall as she campaigns for the 2026-2030 term.
Kicic, who arrived in Canada as a refugee with $100, cites Aurora Town Square as an example of development costs exceeding budgets and notes major Town projects have consistently missed budget targets over the past eight years.
Drawing on 20 years of experience in real estate and contract negotiation, Kicic argues that selecting the lowest bid often leads to $8 million in over-budget costs, advocating for independent oversight to ensure better long-term value.
Beyond budget concerns, Kicic is focusing her campaign on community issues including local affordability and job opportunities, aiming to ensure Council members maintain a strong voice to represent constituents.
As the Town approaches the 2026-2030 term, Kicic enters a four-way race for Head of Council, hoping to bring her financial acumen to Town Hall and shift municipal direction.
