Slender Man Attacker Won't Fight Extradition to Wisconsin After Fleeing Group Home

Attorney argues Morgan Geyser, previously found not guilty by reason of mental disease, should be placed in a mental health facility instead of jail after recent escape.

  • On Dec. 1, Tony Cotton filed a letter asking Waukesha County Circuit Court to transfer Morgan Geyser from Waukesha County Jail back to the Winnebago Mental Health Facility.
  • Having spent most of the past eight years at Winnebago Mental Health Institute, Morgan Geyser was granted a court-approved conditional release earlier this year and placed in the YoYo Quality Care group home, Madison, in September.
  • Attorney Tony Cotton wrote, `Given that she has no new criminal charges in Waukesha County and given that she has been previously found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect on the underlying offense, it is our position that she should be housed in a mental health facility, not a correctional institution.` after Geyser and Chad Mecca, 43, were found at a Posen, Illinois gas station on Nov. 23.
  • At a hearing set for Dec. 22, the Department of Health Services is expected to argue she be returned to a mental health institution, but legal experts caution this is not certain.
  • In 2014, Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier stabbed Payton Leutner 19 times when all were 12, and Geyser received a February 2018 sentence to a maximum 40 years of mental health supervision.
