2027: Atiku Approves National Campaign Council
Atiku said the council will focus on cost of living, unemployment and insecurity as it builds policy proposals and campaign operations.
- On Thursday, African Democratic Congress presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar unveiled his Presidential Campaign Council, appointing Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as chair and Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman.
- Atiku has contested Nigeria's presidential elections multiple times, beginning with the 2007 general election after serving as vice-president under President Olusegun Obasanjo. He previously sought party nominations in 1993, 2011, and 2015 without success.
- Senator Austin Akobundu will serve as Director-General and Campaign Manager, supported by six deputy director-generals and 30 other directors tasked with addressing unemployment and cost of living.
- Media strategy and mobilization efforts will be led by Dele Momodu as head of media and communications and Dino Melaye leading the contact and mobilisation team. Both will develop policy proposals addressing national challenges.
- The 2027 race will mark Atiku's final contest, following his announcement earlier this year. Senior aide Phrank Shaibu said the council's success will be measured by its ability to make Nigeria affordable again.
