In September, the number of first asylum applications in Germany increased to 5,276. At the same time, more and more subsequent applications are being made, especially by people from Afghanistan.
In September, 40 percent fewer people applied for asylum for the first time than in the same month a year earlier. Compared to August, however, the number rose slightly.
In the past month, a little more people applied for asylum in Germany than in the previous month. In principle, however, the number of asylum seekers is still declining.
BERLIN - Germany's Interior Ministry said on Saturday that more people filed their first asylum applications in September than in previous months, but stressed that the overall number was still falling, according to a report by the DPA agency on Saturday.
