Asian Games: Pakistan knock India out of men’s volleyball in quarter-final
Murad Khan scored 22 points as Pakistan outperformed India in spikes and blocks, winning in 1 hour and 20 minutes.
On Thursday, Pakistan defeated India 3-0 at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games men's volleyball quarterfinal, held at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium, securing a semifinal spot.
India entered the knockout stage unbeaten after securing pool victories over Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Qatar, while Pakistan arrived as Pool A runners-up following a straight-sets loss to Japan.
Murad Khan led Pakistan with 19 points, while India's top scorer, Ashwal Rai, managed only nine points; Pakistan recorded a 70% spike success rate compared to India's 41%.
India's wait for a medal now extends to at least 44 years, with their last bronze coming in 1986, while Pakistan will finish in the top four at the Asian Games for the first time in 64 years.
Captain Murad Jehan criticized logistical mismanagement at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, reporting that a bus driver took a wrong turn, leaving the squad with limited preparation time before matches.
