Ashutosh Gowariker Appointed Festival Director for 57th International Film Festival of India in Goa
The filmmaker succeeds Shekhar Kapur and will oversee competition screenings, retrospectives, masterclasses and the WAVES Film Bazaar.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting appointed filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker as Festival Director for the 57th International Film Festival of India, scheduled for Goa in November.
From attending the festival in 1984, Gowariker has maintained deep engagement with IFFI, most recently serving as Jury President for International Cinema in 2024.
Gowariker succeeds filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who served a two-year term as Festival Director across the 55th and 56th editions.
Known for ambitious large-scale films in Bollywood, Gowariker built his reputation through Oscar-nominated "Lagaan" and the rural drama "Swades."
Founded in 1952, the festival remains Asia's most prominent, and Gowariker pledged to work closely with The Ministry and the Government of Goa to carry forward its legacy.
