Cleveland Police in post-A66 crash organised crime raids
More than 100 officers joined the day-long operation, which led to 17 arrests and seizures of drugs, weapons and cash, police said.
- On Monday, Cleveland Police launched Operation Artemis, executing four warrants across Middlesbrough and Redcar and making 17 arrests for drug supply and motor vehicle theft.
- Heightened police activity followed the August 22 collision on the A66 in South Bank, which killed two officers, PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough, and five young men.
- In excess of 130 officers executed warrants, seizing suspected class A and class C drugs, cash, weapons, and an electric assisted pedal cycle or "revvi." Officers also targeted off-road bike problems.
- Crime Commissioner Matt Storey stated, "This makes people more reassured about what is really going in their communities," emphasizing visible policing's role in addressing resident concerns.
- Assistant Chief Constable Mark Hall noted public support has been "absolutely phenomenal," stating, "It's clear criminality of any sort is not welcome on these estates.
