Around 50 migrants arrive in Dover after refusing French coastguard help
- Fifty-One migrants arrived in Dover early Wednesday after crossing the Channel, with the vessel reaching the Border Security Command compound shortly after 12:30 a.m.
- The French coastguard reported the group departed Vierville-sur-Mer, Normandy, on Monday, spending over 30 hours at sea in "precarious conditions" while remaining "determined to take all risks to reach the United Kingdom."
- Authorities had expected the boat to land in Gosport, drawing protesters to the area; local police arrested six individuals who "became hostile towards officers" while blocking a road.
- The Maritime and Coastguard Agency confirmed passengers would be transferred to the Border Security Command, which a Government spokesperson said "works around the clock to protect our border."
- Approximately 17,480 migrants have crossed the Channel this year, including 5,011 since Prime Minister Andy Burnham took office, representing a 46% decrease compared to last year.
