Navy Reservist Finds 6.03-Carat Diamond at Arkansas Park

Collectors say the yellow stone could fetch more than $1 million, while one appraiser values it at about $250,000.

  • Navy reservist Jack Pearadin discovered a 6.03-carat yellow diamond at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas, livestreaming the moment on TikTok. He named the stone the "American Dream."
  • Originally from Missouri, Pearadin has searched for gems for more than a dozen years, even moving to Murfreesboro to support his hobby. He has found over 300 diamonds at the park so far.
  • While Pearadin claims collectors believe the stone could be worth over $1 million, an experienced appraiser told The Associated Press it may be worth closer to $250,000. Most diamonds found at the park weigh about a quarter of a carat.
  • Pearadin plans to split proceeds with fellow gem hunter Michael Schumacher of Wisconsin, who helped dig the gravel that produced the stone. He intends to use his share to open his own crystal mine.
  • Crater of Diamonds State Park remains one of the only places in the United States where the public can hunt for diamonds and keep their finds. More than 37,000 diamonds have been discovered there since 1972.
