Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Brazil Submit Joint RWC Bid
The bid proposes 11 stadiums in 10 cities and would make South America the first host region, World Rugby said.
- On Monday, the Argentine Rugby Union announced that Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, and Brazil submitted a joint bid to host the 2035 Rugby World Cup, seeking to bring the quadrennial tournament to South America for the first time.
- The proposed bid outlines plans to stage games in 11 stadiums across 10 cities, with eight venues in Argentina and one each in the other three countries, including the iconic Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.
- UAR President Felix Paez Molina said the bid represents an "opportunity to show the world our passion for this sport, our ability to host major events, and everything our countries have to offer." The project is being built with Sudamerica Rugby and regional unions.
- World Rugby will undertake site visits and feasibility assessments before identifying a preferred host by next May, with a final decision on the 2035 tournament expected in November 2027.
- Spain and Japan have also expressed interest in hosting the 2035 tournament, while Australia will host the next World Cup in 2027 and the United States will host in 2031.
