WHAT THE TECH? New Siri Wit AI
The upgrade adds conversational controls and automates tasks across Safari, Camera, Passwords, Shortcuts and other apps, Apple said.
- On Monday at the Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple unveiled an upgraded Siri powered by Apple Intelligence and Google Gemini models. This major overhaul transforms the voice assistant into a more capable, conversational digital personal assistant.
- Facing criticism for moving slower than competitors like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, Apple is finally delivering advanced AI capabilities it first promised two years ago. The company aims to catch up in the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence race.
- During the keynote, Apple's senior director of intelligent system experience engineering Justin Titi demonstrated Siri planning a World Cup watch party. The assistant sourced menu ideas from Brazil and Morocco, integrating across Messages and Reminders.
- Because Siri is built directly into the operating system, it functions across Mail, Messages, and Reminders without requiring users to jump between services. A dedicated app will also allow for seamless conversation continuity across devices.
- Starting this fall, Apple Intelligence-enabled devices will receive the new Siri features through software updates. Additionally, Developers and beta testers will gain early access to the improved system before the wider public release.
