Anti-terror police arrest two over arson attack on Golders Green memorial wall
Counter-terrorism officers are investigating possible Iran links after the wall, which displays photos of protest victims and Oct. 7 dead, was damaged on April 27.
On Monday, The Metropolitan Police arrested a 46-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman from Romford on suspicion of arson regarding the April 27 fire at the Eternal Wall in Golders Green.
Located on Limes Avenue, the Eternal Wall honors protesters killed in Iran's January crackdown and victims of the 2023 Nova music festival, standing near the Michael Sobell Jewish Community Center and the Beis Hamedrash Kehal Chasidim synagogue.
Counter Terrorism Policing links this incident to a series of antisemitic arson attacks since March, including the torching of four Hatzola ambulances, the Kenton United Synagogue firebombing, and an attack on Iran International.
Following these incidents, the government raised the national terrorism threat level to "severe," while Counter Terrorism Policing London head Commander Helen Flanagan pledged to protect "vulnerable communities in the capital."
Police investigations into attacks on Jewish, Israeli, and Iranian dissident sites have resulted in 30 arrests since March, with nine people charged and one convicted as detectives continue inquiries.
