Anthropic, Accenture to invest $2 billion in AI model evaluation as safety concerns rise
Anthropic and Accenture each plan to invest at least $1 billion to place outside evaluators inside the AI lab and test model safeguards.
- On Friday, AI lab Anthropic announced a partnership with Accenture for independent evaluation of its frontier models, with each company committing at least $1 billion over five years to build evaluation capacity.
- The collaboration addresses growing pressure from regulators and researchers to ensure advanced models remain safe, supporting what Anthropic calls "embedded evaluation" for independent evaluators to access systems with employee-level privileges.
- Accenture's specialist AI business, Faculty, will lead the partnership by conducting red-teaming and alignment assessments. "Embedded evaluators can assess how a company operates," Anthropic said, helping identify potential safety blind spots.
- Rival OpenAI announced on Wednesday it would begin publishing regular reports on unexpected model behavior, releasing six reports detailing such incidents to provide transparency regarding system risks.
- Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called on AI companies Saturday to slow frontier model development and grant independent evaluators greater access to their systems to better monitor and control behavior.
