Angels Place LHP Yusei Kikuchi (Shoulder) on IL, Select Tayler Saucedo
The Angels said Kikuchi has shoulder inflammation after an MRI, and Saucedo will make his team debut after being called up from Triple-A Salt Lake.
The Los Angeles Angels sidelined left-hander Yusei Kikuchi on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to shoulder inflammation, promoting Tayler Saucedo from Triple-A Salt Lake to fill the roster spot.
Kikuchi was removed from his Wednesday start against the Chicago White Sox after throwing one warmup pitch before the third inning, prompting an MRI on his left shoulder this past Friday.
An All-Star for the second time last season, the Japan native has struggled this year in seven starts with a 5.81 ERA while adjusting his delivery arm slot.
Saucedo is set to make his Angels debut after appearing in relief for Salt Lake, where he posted a 4.36 ERA over 148 relief appearances.
General Manager Perry Minasian said the team is "waiting to see how it progresses" with Kikuchi, noting further evaluation will determine next steps before the series finale against the New York Mets.
