Search Underway for Three Eagles that Escaped Storm-Damaged Enclosure at Dollywood
Team members are tracking the birds after storm damage left three resident eagles missing and forced Dollywood to cancel weekend shows.
On Tuesday, crews at the Eagle Mountain Sanctuary in Dollywood in PIGEON FORGE, Tenn., searched for three eagles that escaped their enclosure after a weekend storm damaged the aviary.
A tree near the Eagle Mountain Sanctuary was uprooted during storms Saturday night into Sunday morning, an event Dollywood said "compromised" the aviary.
American Eagle Foundation CEO Lori Moore said the foundation relocated secured birds to Kodak, East Tennessee, for evaluation while team members track the missing eagles.
Following the damage, Dollywood canceled all "Wings of America" shows on Sunday and Monday, while the park closed the area near the sanctuary for necessary repairs.
One distressed eagle is recovering well after receiving medical care, and the avian care team continues assessing each bird at the American Eagle Foundation headquarters.
