Ben James Takes Lead in Canada in His Pro Debut
The Virginia standout carded the best round of the tournament and moved to 10-under, one shot ahead of the field after 36 holes.
On Friday, Ben James shot a 7-under 63 at the RBC Canadian Open in Caledon, Ont., taking a one-shot lead at 10-under 130 in his professional debut.
A former All-American at Virginia, James earned his PGA Tour card through PGA Tour University ranking, making his pro debut at the fifth-oldest championship dating to 1904.
James has played bogey-free for 33 consecutive holes, leading a competitive field where Sam Burns, Jackson Suber, Haotong Li, Keith Mitchell, and Jesper Svensson sit one shot back at 131.
Brooks Koepka and Tommy Fleetwood trail by two shots, while James said of the weekend, "I just want to feel what that feels and just see what happens out there."
James secured a spot in next week's U.S. Open in New York through 36-hole qualifying, while Eric Cole missed the cut and lost his exemption to Shinnecock Hills.
