American Airlines Matching $1,000 Trump Account Contributions for Employees' Children
The airline will add $1,000 for eligible workers’ children and let employees contribute up to $2,500 a year pretax starting in 2027.
On Monday, American Airlines announced it will match the federal government's $1,000 Trump Account seed contribution with an additional $1,000 for eligible employees' children.
The Treasury Department reports more than 50 employers have pledged some form of Trump Account contribution, with the federal initiative providing a $1,000 seed deposit for children born between 2025 and 2028.
Starting in 2027, the airline plans to allow eligible employees to contribute up to $2,500 of pretax earnings annually, pending final regulations; Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley have also pledged similar matching programs.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent praised the initiative, calling it "encouraging to see our nation's leading companies" support the effort, while roughly one-third of the airline's nearly 140,000 global employees will have access to the pretax contribution option.
The announcement arrives as American Airlines faces pressure to close an earnings gap with rivals Delta and United, carrying approximately $35 billion in debt while projecting roughly break-even results for 2026.
