Amanda Peet reveals 'weird' symptom before breast cancer diagnosis
Peet said dense breasts and six-month monitoring helped doctors find a small Stage 1 tumor before her diagnosis, she said.
During a TODAY interview on Thursday, Oct. 1, actor Amanda Peet revealed she noticed a 'weird' skin change six months before her 2025 breast cancer diagnosis.
Peet has 'dense' and 'busy' breasts requiring regular checkups every six months; an August 2025 routine scan led to a biopsy after her physician spotted a concern.
Diagnosed with Stage 1 hormone-receptor-positive and HER2-negative lobular breast cancer, Peet underwent a lumpectomy and radiation, avoiding chemotherapy or double mastectomy, she noted in The New Yorker essay.
Nine months after her first clear scan in January 2026, Peet told host Savannah Guthrie she feels 'lucky' for her support system, having previously described treatment information as a 'slow drip' of a 'nightmare.'
Dense breast tissue can increase cancer risk 1.5-2 times higher, notes American Cancer Society Chief Patient Officer Arif Kamal, while skin changes like dents or redness are critical warning signs to monitor.
