Measles Cases in South Carolina Rise by 29 to 876, State Health Department Says

On Feb. 3, the South Carolina Department of Public Health reported 876 measles cases, 29 new since Friday, with 354 people in quarantine and 22 in isolation.
DPH data show most of the 876 cases are among the unvaccinated, with 800 unvaccinated, and several locations in Sumter County have exposure sites, the agency reported.
DPH reports 555 cases in children ages 5 to 17, 233 in children under age 5, 71 in adults 18 and older, and 17 cases with unknown ages.
DPH identified several Sumter locations where exposures occurred at Mariachis Mexican Restaurant, Food Lion, and Walmart Neighborhood Market on Jan. 23–25, and people should monitor symptoms through Feb. 13–15; the latest quarantine end is Feb. 24.
Health officials recommend monitoring symptoms through Feb. 13, Feb. 14, and Feb. 15, as DPH will provide a new outbreak update on Feb. 6 and offer free MMR vaccination.
