Aldi to invest £900 million in Britain in 2027

The discounter said the expansion will support market share gains after 2025 operating profit held flat at £432.9 million.

  • Aldi announced on Monday a £900 million investment for next year, including opening 40 new stores and upgrading its distribution network across Britain.
  • Owned by Germany's Aldi Sud, the discounter operates 1,092 stores and ranks as Britain's fourth-largest grocer, trailing Tesco, Sainsbury, and Asda.
  • Sales rose 0.7 per cent over the 12 weeks to September 6, giving Aldi a 10.6 per cent market share, while the company spent £340 million reducing prices this year.
  • Beyond the 40-store expansion, Aldi plans to open 30 additional stores over the next 10 weeks, maintaining its rapid growth trajectory in Britain's competitive grocery market.
  • CEO Giles Hurley identified food costs as a primary pressure on UK households, noting that recent droughts and global events have exposed the fragility of the food system.
