Describing May 27th as "a dark stain on the will of the nation," Çiftçi stated that Turkey would not allow any form of tutelage over the national will.
President Erdoğan commemorated Prime Minister Adnan Menderes and ministers Fatin Rüştü Zorlu and Hasan Polatkan, who were executed after the 1960 coup, on the anniversary of their deaths.
In a statement marking the 65th anniversary of the executions of Menderes, Zorlu, and Polatkan, Süleyman Soylu argued that the Turkish right wing represents a fully independentist line. Soylu stated that the roots of today's policy of full independence go back to the 1950s and 1960s.
