This objective announced by the Commission of the Economic Community of West African States is supported by the application as early as 1 January 2026 of a regulation adopted by the Heads of State of that subregion in December 2024, which reviews the taxation and policy of certain charges in the sector.
With effect from 1 January 2026, the member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (Cedeao) will abolish air transport taxes and reduce passenger and security charges by 25 per cent, as announced by the Cedeao Commission, with a view to promoting a reduction in short-term air fares, increasing passenger traffic and strengthening regional airlines in the medium term.
