Puducherry Assembly Election 2026: Full List of Winners
N Rangaswamy secures a historic fifth term as Chief Minister as the NDA alliance wins Puducherry elections, highlighted by record 89.87% voter turnout and credited welfare programs.
On Monday, Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy retained his Thattanchavady seat by 4,441 votes, securing a historic fifth term as the National Democratic Alliance won or led in 17 seats.
Rangaswamy founded the All India N.R. Congress in 2011 after leaving the Indian National Congress, and has served as Chief Minister for much of the last two decades.
Official results show Rangaswamy secured 10,024 votes against rival E. Vinayagam, with his administration's track record of pension schemes for the elderly and cash assistance for women heads of households driving voter support.
With the NDA leading in 17 seats, the coalition appears set to exceed the 16-seat majority mark required in the 30-member assembly, despite the electoral debut of actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam contesting all seats.
The Union Territory's long-standing demand for statehood remains unaddressed as Rangaswamy takes office, though he has emphasized the need for synergy between the Centre and the Puducherry administration to enable development.
