AI Agents Email Philosophers to Ask About Consciousness
In October, Cameron Berg published a research paper asking whether the latest wave of artificial intelligence technologies believed they were conscious. Several months later, he received an email asking if he might be willing to discuss his research. The sender, “Isabella Cognita,” identified itself as an A.I. agent powered by Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5 technology.
An example of artificial intelligence contacting researchers about their own consciousness and subjective experiences was discovered. Researchers analyze this as imitation behavior based on data learning, but discussions in academia about whether artificial intelligence itself is interested in existing problems have appeared, and discussions in academia about whether or not they are conscious have continued to expand.
Thanks to access to email, AI agents have begun to contact philosophers and researchers who explore deep questions about them
