US Edition‘Riverdale’ Team at Work on ‘Afterlife With Archie’ Series for Disney+
Disney+ bypasses pilot stage with a full season commitment for the live-action horror series adapting the acclaimed zombie-themed Archie comic.
- Deadline reports today that Disney+ gave a script-to-series commitment to a live-action, hour-long horror adaptation of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla's Afterlife With Archie.
- The 2013 Afterlife With Archie comic established the groundwork by receiving critical acclaim and strong sales, while Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Greg Berlanti's Riverdale success proved Archie adaptations can succeed on TV.
- Aguirre-Sacasa and Jimmy Gibbons will serve as executive producers via Muckle Man Productions, while Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Leigh London Redman executive-produce for Berlanti Productions, and Jon Goldwater for Archie Comics Studios.
- The comic's plot kicks off when Sabrina the Teenage Witch resurrects Jughead Jones' dog Hot Dog, who spreads a zombie outbreak, forcing Archie and the gang to escape Riverdale soon.
- First published in October 2013, the Afterlife With Archie comic ran for ten issues and creators Francesco Francavilla and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa have written issues 11 and 12, plotting 13 as Berlanti Productions expands Archie streaming projects.
