After U.S. strikes, Iran increases work at mysterious underground site: The Washington Post
Satellite images show Iran expanding a fortified underground site south of Natanz with reinforced tunnels and a 4,000-foot security wall after June strikes damaged key nuclear infrastructure.
- On Friday, The Washington Post reported Iran accelerated construction at Pickaxe Mountain, located just south of the Natanz uranium enrichment complex, following U.S. and Israeli strikes in June.
- The June bombardment left Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan damaged by U.S. B-2 Spirit bombers using Massive Ordnance Penetrators and Tomahawk missiles, destroying nearly 22,000 centrifuges.
- Satellite imagery shows a 4,000-foot security wall, a covered eastern tunnel entrance and heavy equipment, with Sarah Burkhard telling The Post `The fact they’re continuing to build this is significant`.
- International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors report uranium enriched to 60% is unaccounted for, while the White House monitors developments amid divided Western governments and Israel's possible strikes.
- At the same time, analysts and experts quoted by The Washington Post warned that dispersing facilities may reduce strike effectiveness as Iran repairs missile-production sites at Parchin and Shahroud and threatens to end IAEA cooperation, Ali Larijani said.
