After Sunny Deol says he’d 'never do pan masala ads’, his old ad resurfaces amid FDA notices to SRK, Ajay Devgn
Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe said more than 8,000 complaints were resolved in a month as the agency scrutinizes surrogate ads and misleading claims.
- On Monday, Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe confirmed that actors Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn, and Tiger Shroff received notices regarding Vimal Elaichi advertisements suspected of promoting banned pan masala products.
- The FDA is examining these advertisements as potential surrogates for prohibited gutkha items. Mundhe emphasized that regulations apply to everyone in the advertising chain, stating, "Everybody across the chain is responsible."
- Demonstrating increased regulatory oversight, the FDA's complaints portal has successfully resolved over 8,000 public grievances in a month. Mundhe noted that 9,000 or more complaints have been received, with almost 700-800 currently under process.
- Targeting illegal tobacco trade and misleading claims, the agency is tracing product origins and investigating company directors. Mundhe declared, "Nobody is going to be spared," as authorities move to invoke organised crime laws.
- Strict adherence to FSSAI guidelines regarding misleading claims and additives is now required. Mundhe warned, "Whatever the product somebody is endorsing, they have to look into the guidelines and regulations," noting potential action against violators.
