Delhi Govt Withholds Additional DCP Charge for ACP Vivek Bhagat After Journalist’s Sexual Harassment Complaint
The order will be reissued for 11 other officers as the Crime Branch investigates complaints from three women journalists, officials said.
On Monday, the Delhi government withheld the Additional Duty Charge for Delhi Police ACP Vivek Bhagat, who faces allegations of sexually harassing a woman journalist during a protest.
Three women journalists filed complaints alleging manhandling and inappropriate behavior during an October 3 protest near Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over electoral roll revisions.
Government officials initiated the proposal to grant ADC to 12 Selection Grade DANIPS officers on August 25, but Bhagat requested to forgo the position until a "full enquiry" concludes "of his own volition."
With the Crime Branch assuming a "fair and impartial" inquiry, the government is reissuing the ADC order for the 11 remaining officers who were included in the temporary arrangement.
Officials clarified that the ADC assignment is a temporary administrative arrangement carrying no financial benefit, and assigned officers cannot exercise the statutory powers of regular incumbents.
