Afghanistan accuses Pakistan of cross-border attacks, hitting civilian areas and killing 3
Afghan officials said the strikes destroyed two schools, two mosques and a health center as cross-border tensions continued despite recent peace talks.
On Monday, Afghanistan accused Pakistan of launching cross-border strikes into Kunar province, killing at least three people and wounding 14 others.
Months of deadly fighting have engulfed both nations since late February, when Afghanistan launched a cross-border attack in retaliation for Pakistani airstrikes that killed hundreds.
Afghan deputy government spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat reported that Pakistani attacks destroyed two schools, two mosques, and a health center in Kunar; Islamabad has repeatedly rejected accusations of striking civilian areas.
In early April, officials met for Chinese-mediated peace talks in Urumqi, where both sides agreed to "explore a comprehensive solution," though some cross-border clashes have continued at lower intensity.
Pakistan continues to accuse Afghanistan of harboring militants, particularly the Pakistani Taliban, known as Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, which complicates border stabilization efforts.
