The Next Call of Duty Title Will Test the Loyalty (and Wallet) of PS4 Players
Activision confirmed the next Call of Duty will not release on PS4, likely excluding Xbox One as well. This marks the first time since 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts that the series skips last-gen hardware.
Earlier this week, rumors suggested the next Call of Duty, rumored to be Modern Warfare, was being playtested on PS4. CharlieIntel co-founder Keshav Bhat stated development for last-gen hardware ceased late last year.
Last year, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 released on both current and last-gen hardware but reached only number five on United States sales charts, the "lowest placement since 2008."
Developers will not have to hold back on the next Call of Duty by skipping last-gen consoles. It was toppled in yearly sales by Battlefield 6, the longtime rival to the Call of Duty franchise.
Microsoft committed to bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms after acquiring Activision in 2021, signing a 10-year agreement. Activision stated last year they are working on Nintendo hardware, though it has yet to materialize.
