Fincantieri shipyard accident kills worker, critically injures another
Police are investigating the blaze as unions call for tighter subcontractor safety after the shipyard accident.

- Italy's main metalworkers' unions—Fiom, Fim and Uilm—staged a protest and began immediate strikes at the shipyard. National unions called for a strike across all Fincantieri sites beginning Sept 30.
- Local unions demanded a review of contracting practices, noting that workplace accidents are more frequent where subcontractors operate. "Safety culture needs to change, it is too often viewed solely as a business cost," the group said.
