Nolo becomes a Category 3 Hurricane in the remote Pacific Ocean
Nolo packed 115 mph winds as it moved west over open water, and forecasters said it posed no immediate threat to populated islands.
Hurricane Nolo intensified into a Category 3 hurricane in the Pacific Ocean west of Hawaii on Saturday, Oct 3, with the Miami-based National Hurricane Center reporting maximum sustained winds of 115 mph .
Nolo previously skirted Hawaii as a hurricane a week ago, then weakened into a tropical storm before regaining hurricane strength yesterday as it continued westward.
Located about 210 miles south-southwest of Maro Reef, the storm moves westward at 17 mph through the remote Pacific Ocean.
The Miami-based National Hurricane Center issued a tropical storm warning for the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument from Maro Reef to Lisianski Island, as large surf will likely inundate low-lying atolls.
Nolo is expected to cross westward tomorrow, while Category 1 hurricane Rachel continues heading westward on a path away from the west coast of Mexico.
Hurricane Nolo, moving across the Pacific Ocean, has been upgraded to a Category 3 'major hurricane' with wind speeds reaching 185 kilometers per hour.
