ABC launches on-air campaign urging viewers to back network in Trump agency fights
Disney is urging viewers to file FCC comments as nearly 2,500 remarks have already been submitted in the dispute.
On Monday, The Walt Disney launched a public campaign urging viewers to defend ABC against Federal Communications Commission challenges to local station licenses and investigations into The View.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr initiated these actions amid investigations into Disney's diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, as Trump-appointed allies turned routine license renewals into a high-profile free speech battle.
Spots airing on ABC7 and other stations feature QR codes directing viewers to file comments, emphasizing that Channel 7 has served New York for more than 75 years and The View has aired for nearly 30 years.
Viewers have until July 6 to file comments on The View proceeding and July 29 for local station license renewals, as ABC mobilizes support to oppose what it labels an "unprecedented" regulatory crackdown.
ABC argues the FCC investigations threaten the First Amendment, asserting that reclassifying talk shows as non-"bona fide" news programs represents a politically motivated effort to suppress the network's editorial voice.
