ABBA Legend Dies Aged 76 as Band Issues Emotional Statement
ABBA announced the death of longtime manager Hanser, age 76, in a joint statement shared on social media. The group described her as their "most loved friend and closest colleague."
Hanser began her career in September 1969 at Sweden Music and Polar Music, companies owned by Stig Anderson. She rapidly ascended to Vice President, eventually becoming the band's personal manager overseeing media relations and tours.
Fans and the ABBA Access group affectionately dubbed Hanser the "fifth member" of the legendary band. Visitors to Benny Andersson's studio were frequently surprised to find her greeting them at the door herself.
The four band members Agnetha, Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Frida Lyngstad signed the tribute, requesting privacy during their grief. Supporters worldwide flooded social media with messages of sympathy and condolences following the announcement.
To mark her 30th birthday in 1979, ABBA and Stig Anderson recorded a special tribute. With only a handful of copies pressed, the track remains one of the most coveted ABBA records in existence.
Shock with the cult band ABBA. In a moving statement, the band members turn to their fans and say goodbye to their manager Görel Hanser: "We lost our beloved friend and closest colleagues."
