AAP Alleges Rs 22,000 Crore Rice Scam Plan by BJP Govt in Delhi
AAP says the plan could divert 31,000 metric tonnes of subsidised rice a week and extract about Rs 143 crore weekly, officials said.
On Sunday, AAP Delhi President Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged a ₹22,000 crore rice scam involving the BJP-led Delhi government, claiming the scheme was planned to span three years.
Bharadwaj alleged that 31,000 metric tonnes of rice were requested weekly from the Food Corporation of India but were diverted to a private company in Haryana instead of reaching intended beneficiaries.
The scheme involved purchasing rice at ₹23.20 per kg and selling it for ₹46 per kg, generating a ₹23 commission per kg that amounted to a ₹143 crore weekly scam.
Bharadwaj claimed the Assam-based corporation earned a commission of ₹70 crore weekly; vigilance intervention halted the operation before it could reach ₹11,000 crore over three years.
AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha questioned the procurement process, while the Bharatiya Janata Party and Food Corporation of India have provided no immediate response to the allegations.
