An approximately two million-year-old skull fragment from South Africa provides additional evidence that Homo erectus already lived in southern Africa. The fossil called DNH 127 comes from an adult and complements the well-known child skull DNH 134 of the same site. At the same time, 14 newly described Paranthropus fossils support evidence of gradual anatomical changes in this sideline. Bundoora [...] The post Oldest adult fossil discovered by H…
In South Africa, paleoanthropologists have discovered the oldest known fossil of an adult homo erectus – approximately 2.04 million-year-old skull fragments.
Australian and South African paleoanthropologists described the remains dug up between 1992 and 2019 in the Drimolen Cave. Of the 18 samples analysed, 14 scientists identified them as massive parantrops, three as an uncertain species and a species of hominin, and another, a very early piece of skull, to a very young man who lived in southern Africa about two million years ago, as reported in an article published in Annals of Human Biology.
