Gold Donald Trump statue appears at European Parliament
The 23-karat gold sculpture criticizes Trump’s climate policies and will remain on display until Thursday before moving to COP31.
- A 2.5-meter satirical statue of USPresident Donald Trump was installed at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France. Titled "Orange Plague," the figure is coated in 23-karat gold and depicts the leader sitting on a man's shoulders.
- Danishartist Jens Galschiot created the sculpture, also known as the "King of Injustice." Accompanying cards explain the figure is "sitting on the back of a man" who is sinking under the burden.
- Left-Wing Danish European Parliament member Per Clausen invited the artist to display the work. Dismissing potential criticism, Clausen stated, "If someone is so thin-skinned that they cannot tolerate this sculpture being exhibited in the European Parliament, then they have no place on the world stage."
- Previously exhibited in other European cities and at the COP30 UN climate conference in Belem, Brazil, the statue remains at the parliament. Trump has offered no comment on the installation.
- The artwork will remain at the parliament until Thursday. Cards near the piece reflect the artist's view on climate change, stating, "I would do anything to help him. Except stepping down from his back.
