A Mexican resort group just turned 45, and it’s a family affair
The family-run hotel group invited more than 300 travel advisors as occupancy across the Riviera Maya falls, citing 293,000 fewer international air passengers in June 2026.
Despite a region-wide tourism downturn, Grupo Lomas hosted more than 300 travel advisors at Lomas Appreciation Week in Riviera Maya, celebrating its 45th anniversary with top agents from Mexico, Canada and the United States.
Founded 45 years ago by Lira and her husband Luis Martinez Alday as a destination management company, Grupo Lomas evolved into eight beachfront properties in Riviera Maya; several years ago, Martinez Alday suffered a stroke, leading Lira to emerge as company leader.
Lomas Hospitality's 'More Inclusive' model covers airport transportation and free park access at four locations including Aqua Nick Riviera Maya and Bonanza Ranch, while family-oriented resorts station lifeguards every 30 meters at pools and maintain on-site doctor's offices.
Long-Serving employees like Celestino Quijada Tun, a waiter at Dorado Royale, reflect the company's family culture; Lira credits agents and employees with fulfilling her Mexican hospitality dream, while her son Rogelio Frachey serves as retail director.
Mexico Business News reported about 293,000 fewer international air passengers arrived in June 2026 compared to last year due to crime and sargassum inundation, yet Lomas Hospitality remains positioned to welcome guests for years ahead based on its operational foundation.
